Deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office have removed 28 dogs from a suspected puppy mill on Oak Grove Church Road near Lumberton, according to Robeson County Sheriff Ken Sealey.

Officers said the dogs were in bad shape and expect animal cruelty charges to be filed later on.

They say they weren't able to get all of the dogs and some of them were vicious.

The county's animal cruelty investigators say the dogs were running wild and they've received at least three nuisance calls on the animals since April.

Yesterday a pack of dogs chased a 73-year-old woman and she fell, suffering injuries.

Today, animal control came out with an impound order for animal cruelty.

Several dogs were found with mange and terrible fleas, there was also inbreeding with the dogs.

Sealey said the investigation is ongoing, but will result in animal cruelty charges against those responsible for the dogs.
