Deputies make a heroin bust in Florence County

Florence County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Darius Lamar Hamilton, 26, of Hemingway, and charged him with Trafficking in Heroin.

Investigators say a three month investigation, after citizens complained of drug activity in the Bluefield area of Johnsonville, led to Hamilton's arrest on May 2.

Hamilton was taken into custody following a traffic stop, after which investigators got a search warrant for his home on South Fire Station Road. They say they discovered a significant amount of heroin at the home.

Investigators estimate the heroin is worth about $2,000.

"Heroin and other illicit drugs are related to a majority of our property and violent crime," Sheriff Kenney Boone said.

Hamilton was released from the Florence County Detention Center on May 3 on a $5,000 bond.
