Deputies investigating bomb threat at Wilson High School

Students at Wilson High School were moved to a safe location within the high school following a bomb threat, after a student claimed he had an explosive device, according to Capt. Michael Nunn with the Florence County Sheriff's Office.

A device was found and was been moved a different location to be analyzed, Nunn added. They have not determined if it is explosive.

After police received clearance that there was no threat to students in the gymnasium area, Wilson students were evacuated safely there, according to Pam Little-McDaniel, Director of Public Information, Florence School District One.

Police then used a bomb disposal unit to dispose of the possessions brought to school by the student and determined that the student had lied, Little-McDaniel said.

The Florence County Sheriff's Office and the State Law Enforcement Division are investigating.

School officials have not said how the student will be disciplined. We are waiting to learn if charges will be filed against the student.
