Darlington police identify man who tried to rob bank

Darlington police have issued a warrant on a charge of Bank Robbery for the arrest of Michael E. Monaghan, 28, of Naples, Florida in connection with an attempted bank robbery Wednesday.

Police say he went into the Bank of America on South Main Street just before 3 o'clock Wednesday.

The man handed a teller a note demanding money, Darlington Police Chief Danny Watson said.

The man didn't show a weapon, and left without getting any money because the teller passed out, according to Sgt. Kim Nelson.

Monaghan is described as 6' tall and about 150 lbs.

They believe he's driving a small four door silver car possibly a KIA or Saturn.

He's accused of robbing a bank and two grocery stores in Winter Park, Florida.

The man has a tattoo on his neck that reads "one, two, three," Nelson said.

Darlington police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

He is the same man Florence police are looking for in connection with a bank robbery there that happened about an hour later, Nelson said.
