Darlington County leaders are working on their comprehensive plan for the county's growth over the next 20 years.
The comprehensive plan encompasses a number of matters including housing needs.
County officials want residents to fill out a survey online about their concerns and needs when it comes to housing in the county.
"We want Darlington to be more of a, Darlington County to be a wholistic community. And that way as people as we grow, we can meet the needs of welcoming newcomers into the area to look at all the housing," said Rodney Tucker, Darlington County Senior Planner.
The survey asks questions about things like affordable housing, housing rehabilitation, transitional housing/homeless shelters, new home construction and senior housing.
"Darlington County is an aging community. Where is the senior housing? So we have to look forward. We've got a number of people that's going to be aging. Some of them are going to downsize. Some of them going to be transitioning to assisted living. So
we need to be prepared to address those needs as we look at building up our younger folks to stay here and bring in new people," explained Tucker.
Completed surveys should be returned by Monday, April 21, to the County Planning Office or firstname.lastname@example.org
