BOISE, Idaho - An American soldier who was kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2009, will eventually return to the U.S., now that he's been freed.
But defense officials say Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl will begin the reintegration process at a medical center in Germany, where he'll decompress and reconnect with his family through telephone calls and video conferences.
Meanwhile, government officials face mounting questions over the prisoner swap that resulted in Bergdahl's release.
Bergdahl was traded for five detainees at Guantanamo. Some Republicans say the deal could set a troubling precedent.
U.S. officials say Bergdahl's health and safety appeared in jeopardy, and that prompted quick action to secure his release.
