Crews respond to deadly wreck on Highway 45 near Loris

Highway Patrol responded to a deadly wreck on Highway 45 in Horry County Monday afternoon.

Highway Patrol responded to a deadly wreck involving three vehicles on Highway 45 just off Highway 701 near Loris, Monday afternoon around 1:15.

Rudy Shelley, 37, of Loris was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Horry County Coroner Robert Edge.

A pickup truck was pulling a trailer and heading south on Highway 45 when the driver lost a large metal object that was on the trailer, according to Corporal Sonny Collins with South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Collins said the object hit a pickup truck that was going northbound.

Then the object flew back into the southbound lane and hit Shelley's vehicle.

Highway Patrol's MAIT Team is investigating.

The driver of the pickup truck is being charged for spilling a load, according to Collins.
