UPDATE: For several hours Saturday Horry County Fire Rescue and the Department of Natural Resources resumed their search. He has not been located at this time.
Around 3:30 p.m. Friday, Horry County firefighters were called to Red Bluff Landing off Highway 905 in Horry County for a report of a swimmer in distress, according to Leslie Yancey, with Horry County Fire Rescue.
DNR was also on scene helping in the search, according to Sgt. Nate Hutson.
A witness at the scene says the man, in his 30's, was sitting with a group of people along the river when he decided to go in for a swim.
The witness says the man went in, lost his footing and went under. They never saw him come back up. Several people went in to search for him but couldn't find him so they called 9-1-1.
Divers were in the water searching, but just before 8 p.m., the search was called off for the night.
Officials have not released the man's name.
