Crews battle wildfire off Highway 905 in Horry County

Scott Hawkins, spokesman for the South Carolina Forestry Commission, says the fire burned 178 acres and as of 10:20 p.m. is completely contained.

The wildfire is off Highway 905 between West Bear Grass Road and Harrelson Road in Horry County.

He says no crews were pulled from the Hornet Fire near Carolina Forest to fight the new fire.

One state Forestry firefighter was taken to the hospital suffering from a bump to the head. His condition has not been released.

The SCFC activated six bulldozers and an aircraft to help fight the wildfire.

Horry County Fire and Rescue firefighters are also on scene.

The Coastal South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross opened a shelter Believers Bible Chapel at 7 p.m. in response to a county emergency management request for assistance. The shelter closed at 9 p.m.

No evacuations were ordered, although one family voluntarily evacuated, and several structures were threatened by this fire.
