Crews back at scene of fire at Hartsville Oil Mill

A fire at the Hartsville Oil Mill on Washington Street and Darlington is now contained and under control, according to Darlington City Fire Chief Patrick Cavanaugh.

It started Saturday afternoon and rekindled Sunday.

Darlington City Fire Chief Patrick Cavanaugh says Saturday the fire started when a spark got into the cotton seed.

Firefighters thought they had it contained and under control, but

then said

it continued to smolder
on Sunday.

Cavanaugh said the fire
was very difficult to get to because it was so high up in the cotton seed.

Crews haul

ed out as much of the cottonseed as they could to another building so they could get to the fire.

The SC Department of Transportation shut down a portion of Washington Street as they battle

the fire.
