Conway man arrested after child pornography investigation

Richard Rau, 67, of Myrtle Beach faces eight felony charges as a result of an investigation into a group that is accused of distributing child pornography on the Internet, according to court documents.

Rau faces seven felony charges of Distributing Child Pornography via Computer and one charge of Possession of Child Pornography.

He is accused of sending sexually explicit conduct of persons under the age of 18 via his email "," court documents stated.

Rau was arrested on April 23 and booked into the Florence County Detention Center.

He entered a not guilty plea last Thursday during his initial court appearance, according to federal documents.

There was a detention hearing at 2:30 p.m. in Florence Monday. The government asked the judge to detain Rau until trial. The judge took it under advisement and has not yet made a decision on bond.

Rau is being held in the Florence County Detention Center.
