Congressman Tom Rice talks gun control and more

Tom Rice is taking a break from Washington and is working within his district this week.

Rice is a freshman congressman serving the 7th District which includes the Grand Strand and most of the Pee Dee.

He has been appointed to to the business and tourism and infrastructure committees for Congress.

Rice believes this is where he can best serve our district.

"I-73 is certainly a high priority and the Georgetown port," said Rice.

However being in Washington, Rice now has the ability to affect more than just our area, but the entire nation.

And he has concrete views on the top topics.

"I think that the right to bear arms is clearly protected in the Constitution, and I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that's continued," said Rice.

Rice does feel there are some changes that need to be made in other areas.

"Where the issue lies is mental health. I think we've got to do a better job of identifying people with mental health issues and making sure they get the treatment they deserve," said Rice.

Rice also shared his thoughts on immigration. He said he believes that before we add more legislation on immigration we need to control our borders in a more secure way.
