Community mourns death of popular Bennettsville restaurant owner
Bennettsville, S.C. (WPDE) —
The Bennettsville community is mourning the death of a popular restaurant owner Dimitri "Jim" Bakogiannis, 75, after he died last Friday, September 15 at his home, according to an obituary from Burroughs Funeral Home in Bennettsville.
The obituary says Bakogiannis became a resident of Bennettsville in 1982 and had owned and operated the Dairy Dream for the past 35 years.
Online condolences describe Bakogiannis as a kind man who always had a smile on his face and a word of encouragement for others even when he was in pain.
Others remember him as a man who provided jobs for many in the community through his restaurant.
One woman says she worked at the Dairy Dream for nine years and Bakogiannis "always displayed love for the lord and each other above all else."
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Burroughs Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Bennettsville.
The funeral says the family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the ALS Association North Carolina Chapter, 4 North Blount Street Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27601 or online @www.alsnc.org, or to Hurricane Relief Funds of your personal choice in honor of Mr. Bakogiannis.
