PARKMAN, Maine (AP) - Conventional wisdom suggests the Burt behind Burt's Bees left the company after he became disillusioned with corporate life and didn't like living in North Carolina.
But a documentary that opens Friday in eight cities from New York to Los Angeles tells a different story. Burt Shavitz says the reality is that was forced out by co-founder Roxanne Quimby after he had an affair with an employee.
The reclusive bee keeper returned to Maine where he lives on property where the company launched in the 1980s.
Shavitz doesn't like to talk about his relationship with Quimby but tells The Associated Press that he has no regrets. He says he's happy living on his 37 acres with his three golden retrievers.
