Civilians step in for Salute from the Shore

A World War II plane and some others flew along the beach from the North Carolina line to the Georgia line in what's called "Salute from the Shore" Thursday afternoon.

People lined the beaches wearing their red, white, and blue to honor our nation's birthday.

In year's past, planes from South Carolina military bases flew the "Salute from the Shore."

Because of sequestration, the military could not participate. Civilian pilots offered their time and vintage military aircraft this year with World War II and Vietnam veterans on board.
