Chesterfield County school bus involved in accident

A Chesterfield school bus was struck by a van Tuesday morning.

A van struck a Chesterfield County School District bus Tuesday morning at the intersection of SC 9 and SC 102 in the town Chesterfield.

was attempting to make a left turn when the van disregarded the traffic signal and struck the bus, according to Lt. David Lisenby with Chesterfield police.

to CMC Union Hospital in Monroe, NC.

A few students on the bus were checked at the scene by first responders before being released to their parents.

Those on the bus included students from Chesterfield High School, Chesterfield-Ruby Middle School, and Edwards Elementary School.

Principals worked to contact the parents of all students involved, and within an hour after the accident, students were at their respective schools.

"We appreciate the efforts of the local police, fire, and EMS," says Dr. Harrison Goodwin, superintendent of the Chesterfield County School District. "Our thoughts also go out to the driver of the van."

Chesterfield police said charges are pending against the driver of the van.
