Chesterfield County bans bath salts, synthetic marijuana

The synthetic drug known as bath salts is now illegal in unincorporated Chesterfield County.

Chesterfield County council unanimously passed an emergency ordinance Wednesday. It makes it illegal to advertise, possess, buy, sell or use bath salts, bath salts like substances and synthetic marijuana.

The ordinance goes into effect immediately. Anyone caught violating it will be guilty of a misdemeanor.

Sheriff Sam Parker said in a press release, "In all of my years of law enforcement, I have never seen a substance this dangerous take off like this one has. People have got to be informed, especially parents."

Cheraw passed a similar ordinance last month.
