CCU students may get a new walking bridge

Coastal Carolina University students who live between Highway 501 and Highway 544 off of Cox Ferry Road have a difficult time getting to class because of a large ditch between their apartments and campus.
Currently more than 300 students use a makeshift bridge of wood pallets and a futon frame to get across.
"I have to walk across a man made bridge that me and few friends put together and a futon stuffed under it," said student Richard Coennen.
Walk2Campus, which manages Campus Walk Apartments, wants to put mulch down on the trail and build a pedestrian and bike bridge over the ditch.
The proposed plan will be paid for by Walk2Campus and will cost between $10,000 and $30,000.
Walk2Campus first needs approval from Horry County Council. At Tuesday night's meeting, council passed the first of three readings for the ordinance.
