Coastal Carolina University held a ribbon cutting Friday morning for the Kenneth E. Swain Hall building.
The $15 million building is 40,000 square feet and houses four disciplines: biology, chemistry, environmental science and health promotion.
Swain Hall has state-of-the-art labs that will allow additional research in DNA technology, microbiology, cell biology, plant classes, genetics, immunology and virology.
The Swain Scholars Program is also housed in the building. The program allows students to work on projects like community health outreach programs.
