CCU grad-formed band Oracle Blue to open Waccamaw Getaway Festival
Conway, S.C. (WPDE) —
Waccamaw Getaway Festival is at Bucksport Marina in Conway this weekend.
The three day music festival kicks off tomorrow night with a local band Oracle Blue's album release party.
It started as a dream for these college friends, grouped together for the music program at Coastal Carolina University.
"You know, Liz would write songs. Whoever would have compositions and bring them in and we finally started just kind of hanging out more and playing together," said Wade McMillan, Oracle Blue drummer.
"It's been a really fun journey since we graduated two years ago," said Liz Kelley Tavernier, Oracle Blue lead vocalist.
They formed the band Oracle Blue.
Here they are now, many gigs and a European tour later, about to release their first album.
"It's been a wild ride," said Liz, "so I'm really excited to finally be releasing an album for people to listen to."
Their album, Gilded Kingdoms, is comprised of original music written and composed by these skilled musicians.
"Between the six of us, we have a lot of different inspirations, so it's kind of a big melting pot of all of those things," said Liz.
Their album will sound different than their live shows. Those are all different, and all about the vibe.
"Seeing what happens in the moment based on everyone's feelings or what they're going through at the moment and emotions," said Wade, "and trying to put it in the music and see what happens. It's like a conversation, you know?"
A conversation between friends and fellow CCU grads with a career track together.
You can see Oracle Blue at the Waccamaw Getaway Festival Friday, May 25 at 7 p.m.
