Local surfer Cam Richards has advanced to the quarter-final round in an online contest for a spot in the Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles, a stop on the Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour.
Richards, 19, now has to beat another surfer in a head-to-head battle during the quarter-final voting round which began at 3 a.m. on Tuesday and ends at 3 a.m. on Wednesday.
The winner of the spot will be decided by online votes only.
If Richards wins this round, he will move on to the semi-finals.
Richards also competed in this same contest last year and did not make it past the first round, where he got the second highest number of votes. Only 100 votes separated him and the winner of the contest, according to Surfing Magazine.
You can cast your vote in the contest on the Hurley Pro site.
