Bus fire causes highway closure in North Myrtle Beach

Investigators are still working to figure out what caused a bus to catch fire in North Myrtle Beach on Old Highway 17 at Highway 17 just before 10:30 Monday night.

North Myrtle Beach Fire Chief Tom Barstow said the driver of the Chesterfield School District bus heard a loud pop and saw smoke coming from the left rear tire.

He said the driver tried to put out the fully involved bus fire but when he couldn't he made sure everyone got off the bus.

No one was hurt, according to Barstow.

Crews shut down Old Highway 17 while putting the flames out. The highway is back open.

They were on scene for two hours.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
