Brush fire threatening homes

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a brush fire Wednesday that was threatening homes off of Highway 544 at Roscoe Road, according to Leslie Yancey with Horry County Fire Rescue.

Three boats and one shed were lost in the fire but no homes, Yancey added.

Two structures were threatened but Horry County Fire Rescue was able to control the fire before it reached the homes.

Horry County Fire Chief Fred Crosby says the brush fire started near some electrical wiring.

The fire has been contained, Crosby added.

Highway 544 was shut down in the area for over an hour Wednesday but all lanes of traffic are back open.

Fire crews from Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet responded.
