Brush fire burns 60 acres near Marion County amphitheater

A brush fire has burned 60 acres off of Highway 501 in front of the Marion County Amphitheater, according to Chief Billy Wallace with Marion Rural Fire.

The fire started just after 12 p.m. on Wilbur Road and spread to the woods near the amphitheater.

The entire field surrounding the venue is burned, Wallace says, but they managed to save all the buildings, stage and seating area at the amphitheater.

Crews are still battling the fire.

Wallace believes a cigarette tossed out from a car could have started the fire.

Marion Rural Fire, Marion City Fire, Mullins Fire, Raines Fire and the South Carolina Forestry Commission

all worked to contain the fire.

We will let you know when the fire is under control.
