Both parties blaming each other in government shutdown

WASHINGTON- Republicans and Democrats are blaming each other for the partial government shutdown.

President Barack Obama warns that the longer the shutdown continues, "the more families will be hurt."

House Speaker John Boehner says "Washington Democrats have slammed the door on reopening the government by refusing to engage in bipartisan talks."

House Republicans have tried getting bills passed that would reopen certain parts of government affected by the partial shutdown.

The bills covered the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Park Service and a portion of the Washington, D.C., government funded with local tax revenue.

Democrats say Republicans shouldn't be allowed to choose which agencies remain open and which stay shut.

Republican aides say the bills may be reintroduced Wednesday under rules requiring only a majority to pass.
