Bond set at $100,000 each for Bennettsville couple accused of stealing from the church
Bennettsville, S.C. (WPDE) — A magistrate set Bond Wednesday at $100,000 each for a husband and wife accused of stealing money from their church, according to Lt. Larry Turner with Bennettsville police.
John Lee Davis and Trollie Cassidy Davis are charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent and criminal conspiracy after police say they stole $5,000 from St. James Freewill Holiness Church.
The thefts happened between Jan. 1, 2012, and June 12, 2017, according to Turner.
Turner said the Davis' were entrusted by the pastor with the accounting, bookkeeping and physical possession of the church's funds and "did feloniously convert and appropriate such property to their own use and purpose, with the intent to deprive the church."
The couple remains at the Marlboro County Detention Center.
