A leak in the City of Bennettsville's water system has led officials to issue a boil water advisory for residents in the city, as well as residents in surrounding areas that are on the city's water system.
Residents are advised to use bottled water for drinking or cooking or to boil water for at least one minute before using it. Ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes. The water company says it's OK to use the water for bathing.
The leak has resulted in low pressure which could potentially cause contamination.
The Marlboro County School District has sent bottled water to all schools in Bennettsville for use throughout the day.
DHEC took samples from different sites to test for bacteria. They'll have the results sometime Friday afternoon, so the advisory won't be lifted before then. We'll post the results as soon as we get them.
