Body found in submerged car identified

Police got a call Wednesday morning that a car had been found in a pond on the Man O' War Golf Course.

An Horry County man died early Wednesday morning. His body was found in a pond on a Grand Strand golf course.

According to The Horry County Coroner's Office, Donald Raven, 47, was found inside his SUV, which was submerged in the pond at the Man-O-War golf course in the Carolina Forest area.

South Carolina Highway Patrol, Horry County Police and Fire Rescue all responded this morning to a call about a vehicle submerged in a pond.

Once a dive team unit went into the water to examine the SUV, they found a body in the vehicle.

After Raven's body was discovered, the Horry County Crime Scene Unit began to investigate whether a crime was committed that is standard procedure.

Once they determined no foul play was involved, the investigation was turned over to the highway patrol who is now investigating the incident as a traffic accident.

T roopers say it's still very early in their investigation into how the accident happened.

The Horry County Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy Thursday morning and provide more about Raven's cause of death.
