Big turnout for Florence comic con

More than 1,200 people came out to the first-ever comic convention in Florence.

A comic con as its called brings togethers fans of comic books, super heroes and science fiction.

It took place at the Art Trail Gallery on West Evans Street in the downtown area.

They dressed as their favorite comic book and super hero characters, including Spiderman, Scooby Doo, Batman, and Cat Woman.

Denny Stevenson with Legends Comics hosted the event and says he had no idea so many people would flock to the event.

"It's been unbelievable. The turnout has been, well probably have been , when it's all done we'll probably have about 1,200 people coming through which is way bigger than what we thought it was gone be," said Stevenson.

Some of those in attendance say they had no idea there was such a huge comic book fan base in Florence and the Greater Pee Dee.

"It's a chance to meet some of the local fans to come and get to dress up and show the costume I created," said Johnathon Green.

Legends Comics is looking forward to possibly hosting another comic con event in the near future.
