Big band competition to draw thousands to Dillon
Dillon, S.C. (WPDE) —
A marching band competition is expected to draw about 4,000 people to Dillon this Saturday at Memorial Stadium, according to officials with Dillon Band Booster Club President Cedric Page.
The booster club is sponsoring the competition and it's being hosted by the Dillon High School Band.
Page said the competition will feature about 20 high school marching bands from across South Carolina and North Carolina.
He said bands from South Carolina State University, Shaw University and Benedict College will take part in the event.
"It's a very unique competition. And, this is the only competition in this area that continues to draw over 4,000 spectators," said Page.
Dillon High School Band Director Adrian Wright said his students are ready for the show.
"Kids look forward to this event every year. It's a big event for the community. We just excited to have the opportunity to host this event," said Wright.
The event takes place Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Dillon. Doors open at 1 p.m.
