The 20-year-old Ukrainian student, who was hit by a bus at the intersection of 9th Avenue North and North Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach Wednesday morning has died, according to Capt. David Knipes with Myrtle Beach police.
Olha Marchuk was pronounced dead around 11:54 a.m. Wednesday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
The wreck happened just before 10 a.m.
The bus was turning right onto 9th Avenue North from Kings Highway when Marchuk was hit.
Police say Marchuk crossed the intersection illegally, hit the side of the bus and was then run over by the back tires of the bus.
There were three people on the Coast Regional Transportation Authority bus in addition to the driver. They were not injured.
The bus driver will not be charged.
Wednesday night, Marchuck's co-workers at WonderWorks in Myrtle Beach said her death came as a shock.
They say she was in Myrtle Beach to work for the summer as part of the CIEE program which allows foreign students to work in the U.S. over the summer.
She worked two jobs, one of them at WonderWorks at Broadway at the Beach, where her fellow workers remember her having a tremendous work ethic and attitude.
Her friends said Olha was supposed to return to the Ukraine in about a month.
