As of 11 a.m. Monday, Bertha has been upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane. This makes Bertha the second hurricane of the 2014 hurricane season.
Bertha is located 531 Miles Southeast of Myrtle Beach and approximately 230 miles East-northeast of the Great Abaco Island. Maximum sustained winds are recorded at 80mph. It is moving North at 17mph and is forecast to make a gradual turn to the Northeast.
Despite being upgraded to a hurricane, Bertha poses no direct threat to the Eastern Carolinas. Through the middle of the week, rough surf and an elevated rip current risk may be possible so please take caution if heading to the beach.
