Grills have been fired-up for a weekend filled with barbeque along the Grand Strand.
The 9th annual Beach Boogie & Barbeque started Friday and will run through Aug. 30 on the HGTC campus at Market Common in Myrtle Beach.
More than 40 teams are participating in this year's championship, which will take place on Saturday from 12-2 p.m.
Many team members said they will get limited sleep from Friday into Saturday because they will cook on the grill all through the night. Several teams also brought campers and comfortable chairs to stay in so they didn't stray far from the grill.
"First meats go on about 1 o'clock in the morning, 2 o'clock in the morning. By 8 o'clock, we'll have about 70 pounds of meat on the smoker going, and we'll start turning stuff into the judges probably around noon or so tomorrow. But, the amount effort is just insane," contestant Greg Lisenby said.
The event is free, but all proceeds from it will go to Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville, South Carolina.
Below is a list of new and returning events for Saturday, Aug. 30.
Myrtle Beach Car Club Cruise 12-4 p.m.
