Aynor Mayor Keb Johnson doesn't want to wait for Horry County to have enough money to build a community center in Aynor.
He says that could take a couple years.
Instead he wants look for other ways to raise the money, like grants, and get the center sooner.
There are no community centers in the western part of Horry County and Johnson said a center would greatly benefit the community.
"We would love one similar to Carolina Forest or North Myrtle Beach," he said.
The town already has a site in mind for the community center on the old Levister Campus.
The Levister Campus served the community as a school and community center for many years, but was recently torn down.
