Atlantic Beach cleans up, hopes to rejuvenate town

Atlantic Beach held a town-wide cleanup and even demolition in parts of the community Saturday.

The town's police department organized the community effort as part of the Great American Cleanup and the Keep America Beautiful program.

Folks picked up trash, cleaned street gutters and crews even began tearing down condemned structures.

One of the town's police officers says Atlantic Beach is making progress toward rejuvenation.

"We want to beautify the city. We want to show people that when they come through, especially on the highway, down here by the beach, it's a beautiful beach," said Officer Randy Fisher.

"I think a lot of people don't realize how beautiful it is down here."

F isher says they also wanted to clean up in advance of the Memorial Day Bikefest that begins next week.
