At least 17 dead in tornadoes

MAYFLOWER, Ark. - President Barack Obama says the Federal Emergency Management Agency will work with local officials in Arkansas, where the death toll is now 16 from a deadly tornado.

Obama, who is traveling in the Philippines, also sent his deepest condolences to those affected.

An Oklahoma twister killed one person.

There are no fatalities reported after the National Weather Service says a tornado touched down in northwest Louisiana Monday morning.

The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office says the twister hit around 3:15 a.m. in a mostly rural area six miles west of Plain Dealing.

Forecasters have warned of more storms Monday following Sunday's tornadoes throughout the central and southern U.S.
