Arrest warrants are shedding new light on what happened the morning of a deadly fire that killed Charles Smith, 68, of Aynor.
Two men are in custody in connection to the fire last month at 4601 Highway 501.
Tommy Lee Benton, 20, of Chadbourn, North Carolina and Mitchell Douglas Cheatham, 19, of Council, North Carolina are both in custody in North Carolina facing unrelated charges, according to Lt. Robert Kegler with Horry County Police.
On the morning of April 29, Cheatham and Benton killed Smith by beating him, then restraining Smith inside of his home while pouring gasoline on him and setting the home on fire, according to an arrest warrant.
Kegler said both men are awaiting extradition to Horry County.
They both face Murder and Arson charges in connection the fire.
The Horry County Police Department's Major Crimes Unit is investigating Smith's death as a homicide.
Investigators are also looking into a possible connection between a fire at the CBS Outlet in Aynor, which was owned by Smith, and the deadly fire at his home, according to Lt. Kegler.
