An arrest has been made in a deadly crash that occurred around 7:30 Wednesday night on Prestwick Club Drive off Highway 544 in Surfside Beach.
The wreck took the life of Joan Errickson, 56, from the Myrtle Beach area, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler.
Errickson was driving a 2000 four-door Buick south on Prestwick Club Drive. Highway Patrol says she was hit by Gabriel Gratto, 28, who was traveling north and crossed the center line.
Gratto is charged with Felony Driving Under the Influence resulting in Death, Felony Driving Under the Influence resulting in Great Bodily Injury, and Hit and Run.
Errickson's cause of death is multiple trauma because of the vehicle crash, according to Fowler. She was wearing a seatbelt, Fowler said.
Errickson's daughter, Jennifer Hague
lives in New Jersey. We asked her what she would like people to know about her mom. She said, "She did everything and anything she could to help family, friends and even complete strangers any chance she could. She would give you her last dollar if she thought it would help. She should still be alive today to be here with her family and kiss on her grandbabies. This is where she should be."
A passenger in Errickson's car was also wearing a seat belt and was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Gratto is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
