Another animal cruelty charge for embedded chain

During a traffic stop, police found this dog in the driver's vehicle with a chain collar embedded in its neck.

Conway police stopped a woman during a traffic stop and found a dog with a chain collar embedded in its neck.

They've charged Sarah Hemmingway Lewis, 49, with Animal Cruelty.

She was stopped last Thursday at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Blossom Street. The officer saw the condition of the dog and called for another officer to check on the dog's welfare.

The Chow was taken by the officer to the Horry County Animal Care Center for further medical evaluation.

It was determined the dog would need surgery, and the dog was given medical treatment.

Lewis was issued a citation for Animal Cruelty, and is scheduled to appear in court on the charge on Wednesday, March 16th, 2011.

This is the second time this month someone in Horry County has been charged in connection with a chain embedded in a dog's neck.
