Former Lt. Governor Andr Bauer announced Friday that he would formally announce his candidacy for South Carolina's new 7th district congressional seat after South Carolina's Republican Presidential Primary scheduled for January 21, 2012.
"I encourage Republicans in the 7th district to concentrate their attention and efforts now on working for their candidate of choice in our state's Republican Presidential Primary. Our focus must be on nominating a Republican who will beat President Obama and then on electing a conservative Republican congressman in the new 7th district," said Bauer.
Bauer, in a news release, said he had already filed a Statement of Candidacy and Statement of Organization with the Federal Election Commission.
"My hope will be to shake up Washington and bring some common sense back to our government," Bauer said.
Bauer served two terms as South Carolina's Republican Lt. Governor and also as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives and State Senate.
He says he is currently working as a businessman and living in Myrtle Beach.
