Afterschool program gets financial boost from City of Florence

The City of Florence will provide some much needed financial help to the Weed and Seed afterschool program.

City council voted Monday to give up to $50,000 to the program.

Weed and Seed must provide rec

pts to the city for expenses and will be reimbursed up to $50,000 over the next year.

The organization says it needs the money to stay open.

It plans to use the money for operational expenses, including tutorial programs for students.

The program has provided a safe haven for kids in North Florence for more than 13 years.

The city already provides $10,000 annually for Weed and Seed's boxing program for the past five years.
