Abandoned buildings to come down in Florence

Nearly two dozen abandoned homes in the City of Florence are set to be demolished.

In February, Mayor Stephen Wukela signed notices to several property owners that their abandoned homes were going to be torn down and lots cleaned up, if they didn't take care of the problem.

City officials now tell us they will demolish 22 homes and clean up 14 lots in the coming weeks.

They say a local contractor will do the demolitions for about $121,000.

The funds are part of $300,000 earmarked for the work.
