9-year-old airlifted after dirt bike crash

A 9-year-old had to be airlifted to a local hospital after a crash involving two dirt bikes.

The wreck happened on a race track off Battery Park Road in Williamsburg County Sunday afternoon, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Two dirt bikes, one being driven by the 9-year-old, collided on the track, according to Williamsburg County Fire Chief Randy Swinton.

Swinton said the child had to be airlifted to McLeod Hospital in Florence with a head injury.

The other person involved was not injured.

Williamsburg County Fire Department and South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.
