Horry County police officers are investigating a shooting in Nichols that left a 74-year-old man in the hospital.
They were called to Jarrott Drive Sunday around 8:30 p.m.
A woman told officers a bullet fired from outside their home hit her husband in the head, according to a police report.
He was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center by helicopter and was alert and even talking when police arrived.
Officers found the sliding glass door in the back of the home was shattered, according to the report.
They also found a hole through the screened-in porch consistent with a bullet going into the home from the backyard.
The report said several neighbors told police they heard a single gunshot but didn't see any people or cars in the area.
The investigation continues.
No arrests have been made at this time.
