5 homeless after mobile home fire in Horry County

Firefighters responded to Sugar Maple Lane near Highways 701 and 22 in Horry County around 9:45 a.m. Monday, when a single wide mobile home caught on fire.

The five people, including three children, ages 3, 10 and 14 as well as two adults, living at the home weren't there when the fire started, but they arrived a short time after firefighters to find their home burning.

Crews had the fire under control in about 30 minutes, but the home is a total loss, according to Horry County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Brian VanAernem.

The cause remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family. If you would like to donate clothing or toys, they can be dropped off at 5325 Pebble Lane in Conway.
