40,000 pounds of hotdogs donated to Harvest Hope

Race weekend is coming to Darlington, and one race team sponsor delivered a little bit early.

Smithfield, sponsor of Richard Petty Motorsports' No. 43 NASCAR Sprint Cup race team, dropped off 40,000 pounds of hot dogs to an agency fighting hunger in the Pee Dee.

The Harvest Hope Food Bank serves 20 South Carolina counties.

Just last month, we reported the agency was in desperate need of food. The drought in the midwest last summer severely depleted the U.S.'s surplus food supply, which is given to agencies like Harvest Hope.

Thursday's donation is part of Smithfield's "Helping Hungry Homes" tour, a coast to coast effort to help people become more food secure.

W. Lee Flowers, a Smithfield retailer, also participated in the donation.
