The mother of a 3-year-old Hartsville girl posted a message on WPDE NewsChannel 15's Facebook page about a pit bull that bit her daughter.

The child was walking with her grandmother to a friend's home on East Home Avenue near Hartsville, Monday afternoon.

When they got on the friend's porch the dog ran out of the home, knocked the girl down and bit her three times on the elbow, according to the incident report.

The girl's mother took her to the hospital where she received stitches.

Her mother says she's OK but still frightened by what happened.

The child's parents filed an incident report with the Darlington County Sheriff's Office.

The SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has also been notified.

DHEC says their staff will determine if the dog has been appropriately vaccinated against rabies.
