29 cats, one dog returned to animal sanctuary owner

Horry County removed the animals from the Sacred Vision Animal Sanctuary on Tuesday.

Horry County has returned 29 cats and one dog to the owner of Sacred Vision Animal Sanctuary .

The animals were among 227 seized from Elizabeth Owen Tuesday after a court hearing. Horry County Solicitor Gregg Hembree asked for the cats to be removed after getting reports from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. PETA says the cats were not being cared for properly, causing them health problems and in some cases death.

The animals that have been returned to Owen are her personal pets. Horry County's animal care center had the animals checked out by a veterinarian before giving them back.

Horry County still has to care for the rest of the cats until Owen's case is decided in court.

The county is asking for donations of metal food and water bowls, laundry soap, paper towels and newspapers.

You can donate those items and cash to the Horry County Animal Care Center.
