The winner of a $25,000 prize at last month's ArtFields art festival in Lake City has been disqualified.
Festival officials said Wednesday the winner of the People's Choice prize was disqualified because the winning art piece did not meet the contest rules.
Organizers said eligibility rules required that entries be wholly owned by the artist. The art work in question was an iconic photograph of the Warsaw Ghetto that had been colorized by the artist.
Organizers said they consulted with art experts before making the decision. They will announce a new winner shortly.
ArtFields featured 400 pieces of art in public venues and stores for 10 days in April. The event awarded $100,000 in prize money.
