HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say two seniors at Hilton Head High School have died in a wreck on their way to school.
Troopers say four people were in the 2011 Ford Focus around 7 a.m. Friday when it ran off U.S. Highway 278, hit a ditch, went airborne and hit a tree.
Investigators said two people in the backseat were ejected and killed. The Beaufort County Coroner's Office identified them as 17-year-old Cesar Herrera and 18-year-old Cory Rocha. The driver of the car and a front seat passenger were taken to the hospital by helicopter. Their conditions were not known.
Troopers say no one in the car was wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.
The school brought counselors to speak to students and a prayer vigil was planned for Friday night.
